Het doet mij denken aan de tijd dat hij als jong talent zijn intrede deed bij Comte Armand in Pommard waar hij mij zijn indrukwekkende Auxey-Duresses 2004 liet proeven. Sindsdien is er veel veranderd en is Maison Leroux stilaan Domaine Leroux aan het worden en dat is niet eenvoudig in de Côte D’or.

Auxey is en blijft het visitekaartje van Benjamin. Al bij Comte Armand kon hij de Auxey nog beter vatten dan zijn voorganger Pascal Marchand. Ook nu blaakt deze soms logge appellatie van leven, energie en mineraliteit. Goede concentratie en balans.
Vinous 90-92 : The 2020 Meursault Les Vireuils offers more complexity on the nose compared to the Village Cru, offering pressed yellow flowers intermixed with beeswax and honeysuckle aromas.
The palate is well balanced with better acidity than the Meursault Village and offers a welcome touch of salinity on the tensile finish. This comes recommended and should age well for a decade.
Deze Vireuils is een absolute aanrader, ligt koel aan de grens met Auxey-Duresses en heeft op en top het karakter van een frisse Meursault. Geef hem een jaar of 6 en deze fles levert alles wat je kan verwachten van een Meursault.
Vinous 89-91 : The 2018 Puligny-Montrachet Village has primal grapefruit and lemongrass bouquet that needs a little more mineral expression. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity. A very textural Puligny with a crisp, fresh yet generous finish. Leroux’s decision to pick this first among all his vineyards pays dividends.
Vinous 89-91 : The 2020 Chassagne-Montrachet Abbaye de Morgeot 1er Cru has a lively bouquet of perfumed orange blossom, wild fennel and mint aromas that burst from the glass. The taut, fresh palate is very well balanced with a fine bead of acidity. The sapid finish urges you back for another sip. Not long in the mouth, but this is well crafted and, to put it simply, delicious.
Jasper Morris -Inside Burgundy : 93-95. Steeds mijn persoonlijke favoriet uit de kelder van Benjamin. Gemaakt van 2 verschillende percelen in de gemeentes Pernand-Vergelesses en het hoogste stuk van ‘Les Lolières’ in Ladoix. Allesomvattend met kracht, fruit (iets lactisch), en ziltigheid perfect opgespannen met de juiste houtdosering. Dit heeft serieuze concentratie en vruchtextract. Deze Grand Cru wordt pas gebotteld na de rode wijnen om ten volle te ontwikkelen.
Vinous 89-91: The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin Village is mostly from Les Seuvrées, aged half in 600-liter and half in 225-liter barrels, and has a fragrant bouquet of blackberry, briar and light chalky aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit and quite saline in the mouth, with plenty of energy on the refined finish, which really benefits from the stem addition. This comes highly recommended given its prospective price tag.
Jasper Morris -Inside Burgundy : 95-98 Het meesterstuk uit Gevrey. Deels niet ontsteelde trossen geven complexiteit en ras aan de wijn. Zeer gelaagd met veel terroirexpressie. Beter als 2015 tijdens de vat proeverij. Impressionant gevuld met rijp fruit.
